Congratulations, John!

Hard work, persistence & good looks pay off for John…

I am very pleased to announce that John Neupauer has been promoted to the title of Senior Coalition Development Manager. For the last 7 years, John has played a leadership role in defining the Coalition Manager position.

During his tenure, we have experienced outstanding sponsor retention, increased engagement, and revenue growth. More importantly, his ideas and support have brought measurable results to his customers.

While our reporting structure will not change, John will be assuming more responsibility in the areas of:

  • Training and development of new Coalition Managers
  • Developing, implementing and standardizing reports, templates, and processes
  • Identifying, formalizing, and applying best practices across all Coalitions
  • Reviewing promotion results and reporting for accuracy and consistency
  • Assisting with Sponsor Account Reviews where appropriate
  • Analyzing Coalition data identifying trends, opportunities, and potential problems
  • Assisting our international Coalition partners in applying US best practices
  • Please join me in congratulating John! Thanks!

    Amazon Exiting the Incentive Business

News of Amazon’s departure from the incentive merchandise business surprised the industry…

Last week, Amazon.com announced it was exiting the incentive merchandise business.

Larry Schoenecker, BI’s President, writes “In my 30+ years in the business, I have seen several retailers (and now one e-tailer) come into the business with a big splash, win some clients, and then decide to exit. In the 80′s it was the Spiegel catalog company, in the 90′s it was Target (who had over 100 employees in their incentive division when they closed up several years ago), and now Amazon.

But we’re still here. And now with over 28,000 items in our award selection, 13,000 of them under $100. And more on the way. We have a bigger selection of TV’s, PC’s, computer peripherals, and video games than Best Buy. More housewares than William Sonoma, more musical instruments than Guitar Center, and more watches than Macy’s. We are buying at lower supplier costs and have reduced margins across all categories. Our prices are better. And all backed up by our 100% satisfaction guarantee and free extended warranties on everything.

And don’t forget we do 3000 unique auctions per year, have 500 travel packages +2,100 Marriott properties, and tickets to 15,000 events annually.

Amazon had the largest selection of merchandise available for incentive programs and my guess is that we were a distant second.

Until now. We have a good story to tell.”

Tell us about your first kiss: Who, When, Where?

My first kiss was in elementary school with ….. in the auditorium on the stage. We were sitting on a blue gymnastic mat for over an hour, just waiting for the other to make the first move. It was the quickest kiss I’ve ever experienced! We are still friends to this day and run into each other all the time.

What’s the first concert you went to?

Milli Vanilli in 1990. Very popular back then but they went under when their grammy was revoked after it was revealed that the lead vocals on the record were not the actual voices of Morvan and Pilatus.

Who was your childhood celebrity crush?

The New Kids on the Block – all of them! Jordan, Jonathan, Joey, Donnie and Danny

    Bye, Bye, Sandy

Sandy Younger has been lured back to retail food from foodservice…

Sadly, Sandy Younger is leaving foodservice to explore retail grocery in a new career in sales with a local food broker.

During her tenure, Sandy made many notable contributions to the coalition including:

  • Partnering with foodservice sponsors to increase product sales and their operator data base by driving integrated marketing campaigns including driving dozens of successful direct mail campaigns
  • Pioneering coalition wide promotions tied to day parts or events such as trade shows
  • Adding song, dance and photography to the festivities surrounding sponsor meetings
  • We’re rooting for her continued success in a new career – send her congratulations.
